Summertime is a great time to make playground improvements and we had the opportunity to work with Delwood Elementary in Delmar, Iowa.
The elementary school, whose enrollment is around 160 students from preschool through sixth grade, is located in a small, rural community. The work we did was just on one section of their playground.
Resurfacing the Playground
The before pictures show a worn-out rubber tile surface that is uneven and no longer compliant. The school removed these tiles and ForeverLawn Des Moines added the fall attenuation pad and ADA compliant transition pad over the asphalt along with Playground Grass Extreme.
Playground Grass is an innovative safety surface made with lush, beautiful synthetic grass by ForeverLawn. The soft grass is installed over a safety system that is IPEMA certified, ASTM 1292 safety rated, and ADA accessible.
Other Ways Playground Grass Can Benefit Your Playground
No more complaints from parents and teachers about the dirt on the kids and their clothes.
No more abrasive sand being tracked into the facility.
No more raking of the mulch, sand or rubber to ensure the proper depths needed to comply with safety rating guidelines.
No more costly and ugly repairs on the pour-in-place.

Shade for the Playground
In addition to the new Playground Grass Extreme, the playground also got a new 38x33x12 hip canopy installed by ABCreative.
Hip roof canopies are an economical shade solution designed to address a number of shade requirements. They are very durable and can be made to withstand almost any wind loads.
